Teaching Understanding w/Technology

This is the first and a required course for the MAET ( Master of Arts in Educational Technology) graduate program. I was introduced to the foundation for TPACK, technology integration, and policies and practices. During this course we created a blog/portfolio, a lesson plan that focused on inquiry and problem based learning on the web and a TPACK video that can be found on my YouTube channel. This course showed me the many ways I can incorporate a classroom blog into my classroom to correlate with the curriculum.

Adapting Innovative Technologies in Education

In this course I focused on learning, exploring and sharing by repurposing things around us. I used existing technologies to create new ones. This course focused on Maker Education which is an approach to problem based learning and uses hands on, collaborative learning experience as a method of solving authentic problems. Using our Makey Makey kits, we got the opportunity to create engaging lesson plans using items found at the Salvation Army. The lesson is located on my YouTube page!

Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice

In this course I focused on using a variety technologies to address different teaching and education related problems. This course also focused on what is known as a "wicked problem. "This course emphasized deep research practices that we use to try and find a solution for our wicked problem. The wicked problem I chose to research was the Achievement Gap. Using a variety library databases, I was equipped with new ideas and perspectives on my wicked problem. Some of the technologies I used included screencast, a survey, a voice thread as well as a blog. The final project ended a collaborated website created by me and a colleague.

Teaching Students Online

This course focused on the ways I can bring the world into my classrooms with technology. During this course, I created a mock online science class for second grade students that including videos, voice recordings, assessments, homework assignments and rescources. This course highlighted management systems and various teaching methodologies and how they should be used in an online course. After completion of this course, it encouraged me to create online websites for all classes as an additional resource for both parents and students.

Creativity in Teaching and Learning

In this course we focused on creativity and its importance in the classroom. This course focused on what it meant to be creative, do you have to be born with creativity or can it be developed, what does the creative process look like, how can we integrate creativity and what exactly does that look like? During this course I had the opportunity to think outside of the box while integrating technology. I designed a virtual classroom that fostered collaborative learning which is something in incorporate in my classroom. We completed a plethora of projects that required us to tap into our creativity.

Approaches to Educational Research

In this course we focused on alternative methods of educational research. This course highlighted problems in education that drove us to creating a research proposal. During this course I researched the benefits of equipping each student with a Chromebook in the classroom. Using lengthy research, the proposal encouraged stakeholders to review the positive impact Chromebook would have if integrated in the classroom.

Learning in School and Other Settings

In this course focused on how learning occurs in all settings and how we can apply what we learn in other settings to our practice. We connected theories in relationship to our own learning experiences. In this course I had the opportunity to come up with a problem of practice in education and technology. I focused on the lack of professional development provided for teachers with technology integration. After sitting in classrooms, observing teachers, conducting interviews and surveys ( I created ), I invented a strategic plan to provide teachers with the adequate training they need in order to successfully

Technology and Leadership

In this course, we focused on how technology alters the way we teach. We focused on assuming leadership roles and viewing technology in multiple perspectives between teaching and learning, This course focused on the importance of vision and how to bring your vision to light. This course allowed me to reflect on visions that I have had as an educator and also visions that I have for my future. It gave me the ability to set goals and have vision as well acknowledge the importance of being a leader.

Proseminar in Educational Technology

During this is the last and final course of the MAET program, I had the opportunity to do a lot of reflecting on my Master's program. During this course we prepare a final online portfolio summarizing our work from this program. Some of the assignments included looking back at our beginning goals as well as setting new ones. The portfolio consist of essays, reflections, links to projects, annotated transcript, resume and images.
